Will it physically install?

Support

Is it approved or install-only?

Cheap hardware can still become expensive after installation.

The problem is not only whether a device turns on. The real question is whether it can be installed, controlled, documented, and supported for rental operations.

Start with the operating job

Rental devices should support guest access, owner control, cleaner turnover, and fewer preventable interruptions. If the hardware adds app friction or account confusion, it is not a good rental device.

Check compatibility before purchase

  • check_circle Lock type, door prep, and deadbolt fit.
  • check_circle Thermostat wiring and HVAC compatibility.
  • check_circle Camera or doorbell power requirements.
  • check_circle Wi-Fi coverage at the install location.
  • check_circle Whether the app supports clear admin ownership.
  • check_circle Whether the device can be reset and transferred cleanly.

Know the install-support boundary

Coastal Tech can usually install customer-supplied devices when compatible and in usable condition. Long-term support and callbacks are limited to approved devices and supported configurations.

When approved hardware matters

Approved hardware matters when the property needs managed reliability, repeatable setup, and fewer unknowns during guest stays. Unsupported hardware may still be install-only.

Quick checklist.

Brand and model confirmed.

Install location checked.

Power or wiring requirements known.

App/admin ownership is clear.
